Running in the fields with Kristina Srzich. Kristina has quickly turned into one of my favourite persons to take photos with. We last shot together a very, very long time ago during this photoshoot with 3 models in a lake. That was a really fun and moody shoot.

We decided to shoot again recently, but we wanted to step away from serious fashion photograph style photography and have more fun. We had a few inspiration photos we tried to re-create such as one where the subject was running towards the camera. Watch the behind the scenes below to see how many times we tried that running at the camera photo! Aside from that shot, we had a lot of fun skipping and spinning through the fields capturing spontaneous moments.

I am using the Canon 5Dmkiv DSLR camera with my favourite Canon 35mm f1.4 lens. I have since upgraded my camera body to the Sony A7III which has features like eye-AF and strong continuous autofocus. This makes capturing fast movements like the ones Kristina was doing SO much easier! I took some portraits of Kristina with my new camera setup when we went to the Blue Mountains on an extremely windy day.

On my 5Dmk4, I normally like to shoot in one-shot focus mode. Servo-AI is typically used for taking sharp photos with fast movement, however I found over the years I couldn’t rely on the continuous autofocus modes as much. I end up with more out of focus photos than I do in! After some practice, I feel like I get more movement shots in focus with one-shot than I do in Continuous. Kristina and I have done so many photoshoots together, we’ve been to a magical tree during golden hour. We also did a fun little photoshoot with a huge cactus - I had to knock on a stranger’s door to ask if we could shoot in her garden for that one. I feel like this is my favourite shoot of ours though. Oh and our shoot with Ollie the goat comes in a close second because Ollie was just TOO cute!
